I enjoy playing with UIs which are not user-friendly. It is so against the ethos of web interface design. Which tries so hard to seamlessly bend to the users intent -- to quietly dissolve into the unconscious as the user navigates about the page.

The terminal homepage is unfamiliar.  It forces you to think consciously about your interactions with it -- recognize it as an independent system to be contended and grappled with. It does not allow you to be immersed entirely with the traditional subject of the webpage: the product, the idea, the personality, or this case, the class projects. It is a UI which reminds you of itself. Forcing conscious attention upon itself, it engages in an unorthodox battle to become the subject of the page.
